2. Procedure
Depending on the surgical technique and anaesthesia chosen (local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia), you may be given medications to help you relax or put to sleep. The surgeon will then make the necessary incisions, typically in locations such as the crease underneath the breast (inframammary fold), around the areola, or in the armpit (transaxillary). These incision are typically 3 to 5cm long. Through these incisions, the breast implants will be carefully inserted into the breast pocket, either beneath the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the chest muscle (submuscular).
