BBL (Broad-Band Light) Laser Treatment London

What is BBL Laser?

BBL (BroadBand Light) treatment is an advanced light-based treatment designed to improve a range of skin concerns, including pigmentation, redness and signs of photoageing, following an individual consultation to determine suitability.

This advanced light-based technology targets concerns such as sun damage, pigmentation, redness and certain signs of skin ageing. Individual treatment outcomes vary depending on the condition being treated.

It’s non-invasive, generally well tolerated, and requires little to no downtime for most patients. The treatment is tailored to your skin type and concerns, and your practitioner will discuss suitability and any risks with you at consultation. Why not give yourself the glow you deserve?

How does BBL facial treatment work?

Broad-Band Light (BBL) facial treatment uses advanced light energy to gently heat the upper layers of your skin, targeting unwanted pigmentation, redness, and other imperfections. The light penetrates your skin, stimulating collagen production and encouraging your body to naturally repair and rejuvenate damaged cells. It’s a precise and customisable treatment, allowing us to adjust settings for your unique skin concerns. For best results, most patients benefit from an initial series of 3-5 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every 6-12 months. Maintenance treatments may help maintain results.

The BBL Lasere Treatment procedure

1. Consultation

Before starting the treatment, we’ll meet to discuss your skin concerns and goals. During this session, we will assess your skin type, examine areas of concern, and explain how BBL works for your specific needs. This is the perfect time to ask questions and address any concerns you might have.

2. BBL Laser Procedure

On the day of your treatment, we will clean your skin apply and a cooling gel to ensure comfort. Afterwards, we will use the BBL handpiece to deliver controlled pulses of light to your skin, targeting pigmentation, redness, or other imperfections. You might feel a mild warming sensation or a slight snapping feeling, but it’s generally well-tolerated. The entire procedure typically takes 15-60 minutes, depending on the area treated.

3. Aftercare

After the treatment, your skin may feel slightly warm or appear red, similar to a mild sunburn, but this usually subsides within a few hours. You’ll receive personalised aftercare instructions, including advice regarding sun protection and skincare. Most patients can return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment, although temporary redness or sensitivity may occur.

4. Results

Some patients notice improvement after a single treatment, although optimal results often require a course of treatment.

BBL Laser Treatment in London - Frequently asked questions

Not everyone is a perfect candidate for BBL laser treatment, as it depends on your skin type, specific concerns, and overall health. This treatment is most effective for individuals with lighter to medium skin tones, as darker skin tones may be at higher risk for complications like hyperpigmentation or burns.

BBL treatment is one of several light-based skin rejuvenation options. The most appropriate treatment depends on your skin type, concerns and clinical assessment. Unlike traditional lasers, BBL uses Broad-Band Light technology, which allows for customisable treatments tailored to your specific skin type and concerns. BBL treatment is designed to improve pigmentation, redness and overall skin quality while stimulating collagen remodelling. The degree and duration of improvement vary between individuals.

It is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the safety of the treatment during these periods has not been fully established. If you have active skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, cold sores, or any infections in the treatment area, BBL could exacerbate these issues.

Before undergoing a Broad-band Light (BBL) laser procedure, it’s essential to avoid sun exposure, tanning, and the use of retinoids or retinol for at least two weeks. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of complications, while retinoid products can make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Additionally, refrain from using chemical exfoliants or other harsh skin treatments in the days leading up to the procedure to ensure optimal results and minimise any adverse effects.

Most patients tolerate BBL treatment well. During treatment you may experience a brief warming or snapping sensation. Individual experiences of discomfort vary.

After a BBL laser treatment, it’s important to avoid sun exposure, tanning, and hot showers for at least 2 weeks. Also, refrain from using harsh skincare products like retinoids or exfoliants, as well as intense exercise that may cause sweating. Be sure not to scratch or pick at the treated area to prevent irritation or scarring. Following these precautions will help ensure the best results and minimise the risk of complications.

Make-up can usually be applied once any initial redness or skin sensitivity has settled, provided your clinician advises it is appropriate. Use gentle, non-comedogenic products, and avoid heavy foundations or makeup that could irritate the skin. Always make sure to remove makeup gently in the evening, using a mild cleanser, and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the treated area. If you have any concerns or experience prolonged irritation, consult with your practitioner at Dr. Ducu Clinics before applying makeup.

As with any light-based treatment, potential risks include redness, swelling, temporary pigmentary change, blistering, crusting, infection and, rarely, scarring. These risks will be discussed during your consultation.

BBL treatment can sometimes be combined with other procedures where clinically appropriate. Your clinician will advise whether combination treatment is suitable for your individual treatment plan.
